Lawn Care Insurance
Why do I need Lawn Care Insurance?
As a lawn care business owner, accommodating your clients’ needs (and schedules!) is part of the job. You need insurance coverage that’s there just when you need it, whether that’s five minutes before a last-minute booking or months in advance.
Thimble’s Lawn Care Insurance includes general liability insurance which is essential to protect lawn care businesses.
General liability insurance is designed to provide protection from financial liability because of accidents that cause bodily injury, property damage, and personal and advertising injury to third parties. It also provides the investigation and legal defense for those types of claims brought against you and your business, even if you are ultimately not found to be responsible. Here are some example situations lawn care businesses can experience:
Third-party, non-employee bodily injury: You are using a leaf blower to clear a client’s backyard. While you gather the leaves into bags, you set the leaf blower down. As the client is leaving their home, they trip over the blower and are injured.
Third-party property damage: While mowing a client’s lawn, your mower throws a rock and shatters your client’s window. Not good. You could be held liable for the property damage.
How much does small business insurance for lawn care professionals cost?
The cost of your Lawn Care Insurance Policy depends on a few factors. Things like your zip code, your coverage limit, the size of your team, and the length of your coverage all play a factor in determining the risk that comes with insuring your lawn care business.
With Thimble, you don’t have to commit to long, expensive policies, though. You can access flexible lawn care insurance through the Thimble app and customize your coverage down to the month, day, or hour. Plus, if you need to add Additional Insureds, you can tack them on to your coverage with Thimble at no extra cost.

Are my tools and equipment covered?
Thimble’s Business Equipment Protection covers accidental damage, loss, and theft to landscaping equipment you own, rent or borrow, up to a $5,000 coverage limit. Best of all, any equipment less than $2,500 is covered with our blanket coverage. Typically, you need to list out (or “schedule”) each item you want covered in your policy. We know you’ve got other things to focus on (like growing your business), instead of updating your policy with new equipment.
As your landscaping business grows, you may need to lease or purchase a building for office space or storing your equipment. If so, you will likely also need commercial property insurance. This first-party coverage protects the building structure that you own, the area around it, and any equipment or business property inside and within 100 feet of the structure.
Although similar to Business Equipment Protection, commercial property insurance protects business equipment within or near your building, such as computers and printers. In comparison, Business Equipment Protection protects any equipment and tools you take with you to job sites.
