What does Zumba Instructor Insurance cover?
Thimble’s Zumba Instructor Insurance, which includes both general liability and professional liability, is designed to protect you from situations like the following:
Third-party, non-employee bodily injury
While you’re holding a class, should any of your movements lead to a student incurring an injury, if they filed a bodily injury claim, you could be liable.
Third-party property damage
While you’re teaching a class at a client’s home, you’re constantly moving around a makeshift area. While you’re careful not to damage any of their items, should an accident occur and you break something, then you could be on the hook for third-party property damage. The same could apply to the studios you work out of.
Defense costs
While advertising a hot new class you’re bringing to market, you take some light jabs at a competitor. Additionally, a student could suffer an injury and decide to get litigious. Should either your competitor or student file a lawsuit against you, you’d be liable for paying for your own defense team.
Errors & omissions
Clients look to you for advice. You’re an instructor. Should the advice you provide ever lead a client astray, causing them to incur a financial loss, they can claim that you were negligent in your professional services. You could be liable, even if their claim is baseless.

General Liability Insurance
General liability insurance or “CGL” provides coverage against third-party claims for property damage, bodily injury, and personal and advertising injury. That means the everyday accidents that can happen on the job: slip and falls, flying tools, or spilling coffee on a customer’s laptop—you get the idea. CGL is one of the most basic types of insurance for small businesses.
Commercial Property Insurance
Commercial property insurance covers costs as a result of direct physical loss or damage to a building or its contents in situations like a fire or windstorm. Even your accounts receivable can be protected by commercial property coverage.
Business Interruption Insurance
Business interruption insurance covers loss of business income due to interruption of operations as a result of direct physical loss or damage; available as an additional coverage to BOP.

The studio I work for already carries business insurance. Do I need my own Zumba instructor insurance policy?
It’s always important that you have a policy in place that works for you. While studios use you for their classes, their policies are always going to protect them first.
And, when you’re growing your Zumba instructor business, you’re going to want your own safeguards. For instance, what happens when a lawsuit is filed against a studio yet you’re named in it? You could be liable.
Also, having your own policy reinforces your credibility. A studio is going to take your professionalism seriously when you show up to class with your own COI. Additionally, if you’re holding a class at a health and wellness event or conference, the event manager is going to want to ensure you have coverage. This also applies if you rent space at a studio.
At the end of the day, you need to be protected against third-party claims of bodily injury, personal and advertising injury, property damage, and negligence.
What are the Zumba Instructor Insurance policy limits?
Thimble’s Zumba Instructor Insurance comes in two different policy limits: $1 million and $2 million. Depending on the risk you want to be protected against, you can choose $1 million or opt in for more coverage at $2 million.
Are workplace injuries of my staff covered?
No. General liability insurance only covers injuries that occur to third parties. If you’re worried about your staff (or if you hire other teachers to help with your classes), then you should look into a workers’ compensation policy.
Does Thimble’s Zumba Instructor Insurance cover damage to my equipment?
Also no. General liability insurance doesn’t protect any of your own Zumba class equipment. It only protects against damages incurred to a third party’s property. Should you want to protect your own equipment, you might want to consider a commercial liability insurance policy.
