What does DJ insurance cover?
Both General Liability and Professional Liability coverage are included in the DJ Liability policy. General Liability insurance arranged by Thimble is designed to respond to protect DJs from liability regarding bodily injury and 3rd party property damage. Professional Liability Insurance protects DJs against claims of errors and omissions – or claims relating to inadequate performance of professional services.
Third-party, non-employee bodily injury
At a bar mitzvah that you are DJing, a guest trips over your microphone cable and injures himself.
Third-party property damage
You’re setting up your DJ equipment and lose your grip on one of the speakers, dropping it on the client’s laptop. It’s beyond repair, and they want you to pay for its replacement.
Defense costs
A venue claims that when you were removing your DJ equipment after an event, you left a major scratch across their brand new wood floor. You know that the scratch was there before you even entered the space, so you choose to defend yourself in court. A General Liability policy helps cover the costs of defending yourself against this claim.
Errors & omissions
You DJ an annual fundraising event for a small financial firm. Following the event, they claim that the music you selected was not appropriate and that it was responsible for guests departing early. The firm only got 50% of the way to their target and they hold you responsible.
DJ Insurance FAQs
How quickly will I get a Certificate of Insurance?
Instantly. We’ve digitized the entire experience so that you’ll receive a Certificate of Insurance (COI) in your inbox immediately after purchasing a policy with Thimble.
You can also add and modify your Additional Insureds as many times as you’d like directly from the Thimble App.
Will Thimble provide proof of insurance?
Absolutely. Once you’ve purchased a DJ insurance policy, you will be able to view and share your Certificate of Insurance easily in your account.
If my event venue changes last minute, can I update my policy?
Yes, with Thimble it’s easy to add a new Additional Insured to your policy if the venue changes. This update, along with changes to the dates and times of your coverage, can be easily made from the Thimble app.
Does DJ liability insurance cover my DJ equipment?
Our General Liability policy does cover bodily injury or property damage to third parties that may involve your equipment: for example, if someone trips on your microphone cord at an event that you are DJing, this may be covered under your General Liability policy.
However, our General Liability insurance does not cover damage to or loss of your own DJ equipment. For this, you will need to purchase a separate equipment insurance policy, called Business Equipment Protection.
Do I need a Professional Liability policy?
While many venues do not require DJs to have both General and Professional Liability insurance, Professional Liability insurance protects your business further. With a Professional Liability DJ insurance policy, you’ll be protected if anyone claims negligence. And with Thimble, General Liability and Professional Liability policies are bundled for easier check-out and even more peace of mind.
